Ever felt stuck by the very first step when setting up a new Google Ads campaign? You're not alone! Many advertisers feel limited by the seemingly rigid campaign creation process. But it's easier than you think: choose the last option, "Start a campaign without a goal's guidance."

This matters because starting "without guidance" gives you access to ALL available campaign settings and options. It's like choosing the "choose your own adventure" path in Google Ads, empowering you to tailor your campaign precisely to your needs.

In this post, we'll cover:

  • What "without guidance" actually means in Google Ads
  • Why I always recommend this approach for new campaigns
  • How to find and select this option during campaign creation
  • The benefits of having complete control over your campaign setup

Always Choose the "Without Guidance" Option

When creating a new campaign in Google Ads, you're initially asked to select a campaign objective. While these objectives seem helpful, they can limit your options later in the setup process.

The "without guidance" option, often overlooked, is your key to freedom and flexibility. It allows you to explore all available settings and customize your campaign without restrictions.

Why "Without Guidance" is the Way to Go

Here's why I always recommend starting "without guidance":

  • Full Control: You gain access to every possible setting and feature, ensuring you can tailor your campaign to your specific needs and goals.
  • Avoid Limitations: Predefined objectives can lock you into certain settings or restrict your choices later on. "Without guidance" keeps all options open.
  • Flexibility for the Future: Even if you're unsure of your exact approach now, "without guidance" ensures you can easily adapt and modify your campaign as your strategy evolves.

How to Find and Select "Without Guidance"

  1. Start a New Campaign: Click the "+" button to initiate the campaign creation process.
  2. Look for the Gear Icon: On the "What's your campaign objective?" screen, you'll see an option labeled "Create a Campaign Without a Goal's Guidance" with a gear icon.
  3. Select and Proceed: Choose this option to get the best features for your campaign setup.

Remember: Bidding Sets the Real Objective

It's important to understand that the initial campaign objective selection doesn't dictate your campaign's ultimate goal. Your bid strategy is where you truly define your objective, whether it's maximizing clicks, conversions, or impressions.

Starting "without guidance" simply ensures you have the freedom to explore all options and create a truly customized campaign that aligns with your unique advertising goals.
